I love Mango and prefer it to other "freemium" language learning apps. For one, I was able to access full courses using my local library card, which is amazing. I feel that is much better for beginners and helps teach actual useful phrases for conversation. I really love the slides that explain culture and correct usage of certain words. Although, if you are considering learning a language that doesn't use Latin/Roman script, it seems like you do have to learn the writing system on your own

Still good four years later in a new language. Mango is thru my local library. I like that clicking individual words in phrases repeats them and shows a phonetic spelling to help with pronunciation (esp in tonal languages). I like recording my audio to compare or listen simultaneously with the native speaker. The grammar notes are excellent. The vocabulary topics are decent, and I can turn off the English narration. It has Ukrainian, Finnish, Thai and Cherokee which few services offer.

I've been using it for the past 2 weeks to supplement Rosetta Stone (which is really showing its age). This app works a lot better. It is focused on grammar to a certain extent, but it's good to understand why some things work or why/what things are exceptions instead of just memorizing the phrases.
